Environmental Training and Curriculum Development

Cadmus prepares and conducts training programs to strengthen the skills of environmental professionals at USAID, in host country governments and nongovernmental organizations, and in the private sector. Our courses emphasize field exercises to engage trainees in the practical application of environmental solutions. Among the broad array of training courses we have developed are:

  • The Africa Regional Course in Environmental Assessment and Environmentally Sound Design and Management, which introduces environmental assessment and explains its use in promoting environmentally sound design and managing development activities. The course also emphasizes improving project success rates and minimizing the impacts of environmental project failures. More information is available at http://www.encapafrica.org/esdm.htm.
  • Pest Management and Safer Pesticide Use, which aims to improve agricultural production, urban and greenhouse horticulture, and the management of insect-borne human diseases. See http://www.encapafrica.org/pesticide.htm for more information.
  • Improving Success Rates for Micro-, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Through Cleaner Production, which instructs providers of business development services in the use of clean production to increase efficiency and aid the adoption of voluntary trade standards like EurepGAP and FairTrade. For more information, see http://www.encapafrica.org/sme.htm.
  • USAID Staff Training in Environmental Compliance and Environmental Mainstreaming, which explains how to apply USAID environmental procedures and how to integrate environmental considerations into development programs. Additional information can be found at http://www.encapafrica.org.htm.
