Cadmus Honored by Association of Energy Service Professionals for Outstanding Achievement in Energy Services Market Research and Evaluation
Waltham, Mass., March 3, 2016—The Cadmus Group, Inc. (Cadmus) announced today that it was the recipient of the annual AESP Energy Award for Market Research and Evaluation, given by the Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP). Cadmus was recognized for enhancing a basic protocol for evaluating the impacts of the California investor owned utilities’ (IOUs’) statewide Codes and Standards Program, the first of its kind to successfully attribute energy savings from state building energy codes and appliance standards (C&S) to energy utilities. Cadmus conducted the work on behalf of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and the California IOUs.
Cadmus and the other Energy Award winners were announced as part of the opening session of the 26th annual AESP National Conference and Expo in Phoenix on February 2, 2016. The conference is dedicated to the energy industry and brings together policy makers, program managers, evaluators, marketers, vendors in energy efficiency, and consultants to discuss topics such as implementation, program design, marketing, pricing, evaluation, and research.
Starting in 2006, the CPUC authorized IOUs to receive savings credit based on reduced energy consumption resulting from their efforts supporting adoption of new C&S. Such savings, however, are challenging to measure and attribute, and impact evaluations of such programs cannot follow standard methods.
In the award-winning project, Cadmus broke new ground in evaluation to determine energy savings achieved through the IOUs’ support for the C&S. Under the CPUC’s sponsorship, Cadmus refined the existing, preliminary methodology to successfully address the complexities and subtleties inherent in accurately analyzing savings attributable to a C&S program. These included verifying estimates of gross savings; quantifying compliance; creating a methodology for estimating naturally occurring market adoption; attributing the appropriate share of savings to the program; and tracking and analyzing all of these factors. This program evaluation methodology for evaluating C&S programs is the only one that has been fully developed and implemented to date.
Cadmus is now evaluating the program for the third program cycle.
