New Cadmus White Paper Surveys Next Directions in Residential Energy-Efficiency Programs

Waltham, Mass., September 10, 2013—The Cadmus Group, Inc. (Cadmus) announced the release today of its newest white paper, “Residential Efficiency Crossroads: Opportunities for the Future.” The paper, authored by a team of Cadmus energy-efficiency experts, surveys the current state of residential demand-side management (DSM) programs and offers next steps based on Cadmus’ observations in the field.

“With transforming markets and low avoided energy costs, there are real and immediate pressures on those trying to deliver energy-efficiency programs that can meet savings targets,” says Dr. David Sumi, a co-author of “Residential Efficiency Crossroads” and an executive director of Cadmus’ energy services. “In this white paper, our staff at Cadmus draws upon decades of combined experience and in-the-field observation to offer solutions that we believe will have a noticeable impact on the direction of successful energy-efficiency programs in the coming years.”

cadmusgroup.com/eecrossroads“Residential Efficiency Crossroads” addresses the uncertainty energy utilities and agencies currently face as they work to meet energy reduction goals while meeting an increasing number of challenges. As the paper discusses, the same factors that have helped DSM programs reduce costs and energy consumption since the 1980s are now hindering those programs’ ability to further reduce consumption. Challenges include government-mandated efficiency standards and widespread consumer adoption of efficient technology such as the compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL).

The solution, Cadmus’ authors contend, lies in utilities pursuing multiple new directions that emphasize low delivery costs with high participation and conversion rates.

As an established leader in energy evaluation, measurement, and verification (EM&V) and energy program planning and design, Cadmus is well equipped to deliver informed analysis of the DSM landscape. It has conducted more than 1,000 evaluations of renewable energy and DSM programs. Cadmus-developed standards have been adopted across North America and Europe through international agreements.
