Watertown, Mass. June 21, 2007 — Cadmus principal Julio Rovi has been named to the four-person Local Education Subcommittee of the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC’s) Local Government Committee.
The subcommittee is charged with identifying and defining key mechanisms for educating policy makers and environmental advocates about the importance of designing and operating municipal buildings so that they have low environmental impacts, according to Julio. It also will provide resources such as new and updated materials to further its education goals. And it will guide the efforts of local governments to educate their constituents, including members of the public, about this vital topic.
Besides providing content for materials on the importance of green buildings, Julio will maintain a dialogue between the committee and key national associations to ensure their involvement in this effort. He expects the subcommittee members to present the results of their efforts at 2007 Greenbuild, the next annual USGBC conference on green buildings, which will be held in Chicago from November 7 to 9, 2007.
“By contributing to this subcommittee, we help local-government managers become more knowledgeable about green buildings and sustainability,” said Julio. “In return, Cadmus consolidates its position among environmental consulting firms serving the green building industry. Best of all, we help serve our client, the USGBC.”
Cadmus is one of three Certification Assessors for the USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) program. Julio is leading Cadmus’ participation in the program, in which we will leverage our expertise in energy efficiency, indoor air quality (IAQ), and the efficient use of water inside and outside of buildings to help carry out USGBC’s mission of promoting sustainability in the building industry.
The LEED-EB program helps building owners and operators maximize operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts. The LEED-EB Rating System addresses whole-building cleaning and maintenance issues including chemical use, ongoing IAQ, energy efficiency, water efficiency, recycling programs and facilities, exterior maintenance programs, and system upgrades to meet green building energy, water, IAQ, and lighting performance standards.
