Vanessa Leiby

Even before Sept. 11, 2001 Principal Vanessa Leiby was working with states, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and utility groups to protect drinking water systems from terrorist attack. Since then she has contributed to many security-related projects for the EPA Water Security Division, the EPA National Homeland Security Research Center, and the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA).

Ms. Leiby’s career spans more than two decades and includes 2 years with Ohio EPA. She worked for 14 years at ASDWA and was executive director from 1992 to 2003, when she joined Cadmus. As executive director, Ms. Leiby helped influence the progress of the national drinking water program and was deeply involved in the development of the 1996 Amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act. She also worked with Congress, EPA, states, the water industry, the environmental community, and the public on regulations, guidance and policy documents, and education materials to aid the Act’s implementation.

Vanessa Leiby holds a B.S. in zoology, concentration in aquatic ecology, and an M.S. in zoology, concentration in aquatic toxicology, from The Ohio State University. She is a member of the International Water Association and the Water Reuse Foundation and an honorary member of the American Water Works Association.
