David Sumi, Ph.D., an executive director in our energy services sector, has more than 30 years’ experience in evaluation and performance measurement research. His work focuses on promoting energy efficiency and demand side management (DSM) and on quantifying a variety of DSM program impacts including direct energy, environmental, economic, and other non-energy benefits. Dr. Sumi has directed research and evaluation projects, some of them spanning several years, for more than 40 utilities, energy research consortia, and government agencies. He is directing Cadmus’ evaluation of Wisconsin’s statewide Focus on Energy residential programs, as well as program evaluations for three Indiana utilities, out of our Madison office.
Before joining Cadmus in 2010, Dr. Sumi was a managing consultant at PA Consulting Group. He has also been a senior consultant at Hagler Bailly and HBRS, Inc., and an evaluation analyst at Seattle City Light. Dr. Sumi has undertaken energy-efficiency program consulting assignments in Italy, Brazil, Thailand, and Mexico. He has been an evaluation advisor to BC Hydro since 2009.
David Sumi holds a doctorate in political science from the University of Oregon and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in political science from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. He also is a certified measurement and verification professional (CMVP) through the Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVP) and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
Dr. Sumi is a co-author of “Residential Efficiency Crossroads: Opportunities for the Future.”
